Overlander from indonesia to Italy with Vespa |
Andy Leeano, a biker from Yogyakarta who traveled alone using a Vespa scooter to Milan, Italy, has arrived in Edirne, Turkey, on the border with Bulgaria to be exact. Andy started his journey from Yogyakarta on June 1, 2012.
The journey from Yogyakarta to Milan covered a distance of 27,000 kilometers on a Vespa motorcycle in 1961. According to Andi, at first he would only tour around Indonesia. However, with the support of his colleagues, he then turned to travel around Asia and Europe to go to Milan, Italy, the Vespa motorcycle factory.
He then prepared funds of more than 980 million rupiah. The motorcycle has also been modified by adding a GPS, digital camera and increasing the capacity of the gas tank from 4 liters to 30 liters. Various spare parts and simple workshop equipment and spare oil were also brought. Arriving at Turkey Andy decided not to continue the trip to Milan.
The reason, Europe is currently entering winter. It was impossible for him to continue his journey in the snow-covered road conditions. He targets the trip to Italy to take six months. He should have been in Turkey before winter. But his journey is hampered in countries that are in conflict. The Indonesian Embassy in Turkey suggested that Andy postpone his land trip and continue next year.
Heavy snow along the road can only be crossed by special wheeled vehicles. If Andy insists on his journey, he will arrive in December at the earliest. That, too, comes with a high risk. In his social networking account, Andy announced that he would return to the country on November 7, 2012 by plane and will arrive at Soekarno-Hatta Airport, Jakarta, on November 8, 2012. The scooter was deposited in Istanbul. In April 2013 he again continued his trip to Milan. Andy's cross-continental trip using a scooter was the first in the world.
His only sea journey was only from Dumai across Malacca, Malaysia. The rest of the way to Italy is taken by land. The route he took after Malaysia was Thailand, Myanmar, Nepal, Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Iraq, and entered Europe via Turkey.
The man who was born in Batusangkar, West Sumatra, who works as a tour guide, is touring for a noble mission, namely promoting Indonesian culture to the international community. At the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia ( KBRI) in the countries he visited, Andy wore typical Yogyakarta clothes. In addition, he also wears batik, blanks, and Minang traditional clothes.
The scooter has been modified for long trips. The gas tank can contain 29 liters of fuel which is capable of roaming up to 1,000 kilometers. The motorcycle is also equipped with a global positioning system (GPS and a megaphone that functions to repel wild animals.
