Vespa Taiwan Model

Taiwan Vespa Company

These were locally produced, and differed in many ways from the Italian models - Indicators (on the headset originally, then PX style on the legshield), SS180 style headets, dual seats (even on the later PK range) all served to differentiate the models.

Taiwanese smallframe models were sold in Japan for many years until production of these models stopped. Now the factory produces a version of the automatic Vespa ET4 model. Below is a Japanese advertisment for the Taiwanese range. That white bike in the centre is a real mystery, as it appears to be the front end of a Sprint with the rear section of an early P125

The Vespa story begins in the aftermath of WW II in Italy. The economy was left crippled and the roads were in a disastrous state which made it difficult for the automobile and other manufacturers to reemerge.
